Dental Ceramic Restorations in 2020 and Beyond

The recent evolution in CAD/CAM and ceramic technologies offers a whole new range of esthetic, less invasive, and long-lasting treatment options. However, there are still many questions: What are the best materials considering the large variety of ceramics available in 2020? What ceramics can be used with chairside CAD/CAM systems? Do different ceramics require specific laboratory and clinical treatment? Is all zirconia the same? What are the best materials on implants? And where is the scientific evidence on all these topics? This presentation will answer such questions and provide an update on esthetic treatment options with ceramics from conservative laminate veneers to implant-supported full-mouth rehabilitations.

  • Differentiate modern ceramic materials and their indications
  • Learn about CAD/CAM technology and its diverse applications in esthetic dentistry
  • Understand strategies for success with ceramic restorations for teeth and implants based on the current scientific evidence
  • Comprehend guidelines for long-lasting esthetic restorations from laminate veneers to full mouth implant-supported rehabilitation

The Alchemy of Dental Technology

Mr. Tric covers the recipe of excellence and the algorithm for success for the next decade, reaching a new level in production, communication, management and patient education for both clinicians and laboratory technicians. Mr. Tric will be showcasing in detail his clinical cases and reveal key techniques to achieve the highest level in function and aesthetics on a daily basis. He will also delve into his observations and tests between the digital workflow and the traditional analog method, expressing the pros and cons of both philosophies.

  • Tips and techniques for dental shade selection
  • The pro’s and con’s of material selection for esthetic restorations
  • Discuss anterior esthetic stability of implant restorations, relative adjacent teeth and supporting periodontium
  • Digital flow vs. traditional analog methodology
  • Positive communication between the dentist and dental technician
  • Why one should choose internally shaded/layered ceramics for long lasting results

Mr. Olivier Tric began his studies in France at the College of Leonardo De Vinci and the University of Pharo while concurrently pursuing an apprenticeship in Dental Technology. After a 5 year apprenticeship, he launched a 15+ year career devoted to a thorough understanding of the principles of Dental Aesthetics and the mastery of specialized techniques in Dental Laboratory Technology. His specialties include all facets of porcelain restorations on both natural teeth and osseointegrated implants. He is recognized by his peers as a pioneer in the industry by developing new and unique methodologies that are taught worldwide. He is widely published on the topic of ceramic layering techniques and aesthetic dentistry in industry journals such as Dental Dialogue, Practical Procedures & Aesthetic Dentistry and Quintessence Dental Technology. He also serves on the Editorial Board for Spectrum Dialogue, and Teamwork Magazine. He currently operates Olivier Tric Dental Laboratory and Educational Center in Chicago.

FOCUSING ON THE DETAILS! Clinical Guidelines for Successful CAD-CAM Restorations

The rapid rise of digital technologies and ability to fabricate computer-aided design and computer-aided manufactured (CAD-CAM) crowns is transforming the dental profession dramatically. However, a long-term successful CAD-CAM restoration is influenced by many factors not experienced in the traditional fabrication methods. Tooth preparation technique may be the critical component in the digital workflow for CAD-CAM crown fabrication. Solutions will be presented on techniques and protocols to achieve the accuracy required for scanning and milling success.

  • Describe scientific evidence about key factors influencing the marginal fit of CAD-CAM ceramic restorations
  • Describe why precision crown preparation using a Dental Microscope can improve success with scanning and milling technologies as well as conventional impressions
  • Demonstrate step by step preparation techniques with Dental Microscope HD video using specific procedure-based diamonds to accomplish precision finish lines for ceramic crowns, veneers, inlays and onlays
